As I have gotten a lot more greatly involved within the AA program, I have heard the question a lot: precisely why is a sponsor located in the AA program? This is in fact a question that i actually asked when I first joined up with AA. And so, to be able to answer this particular question, I will tell my own account of how I have learned the reason sponsors are part of any AA program. Let me just appeal to you more before I get to respond to this question in full. Through my time within AA I obtained sobriety, and this wouldn’t have been doable without my sponsor. And by means of my sponsor assisting me, I got to be sober, and then started to be influenced to turn into a sponsor myself. Now, why is the sponsor in this AA program?
I came into this AA treatment as an alcoholic that had lost almost everything. I’d lost my business and lost many friends and family members. The only thing I possessed was my crummy little apartment, but before long even this would wind up gone, and it didn’t mean anything anyway. I proceeded to go to AA out of desperation. II needed to be able to change. I wanted leadership, and I wanted that coming from the leader of our AA program. I simply wanted to be with the leader and alongside additional people just like me. So I was thrown off by those sponsors, those individuals that had this all together. I didn’t want these folks around. Then I shortly discovered that I would be receiving a sponsor of my very own from the sponsors throughout the program.
I was initially advised that this sponsor was a person that ought to currently have the thing that I wanted. I became aquainted with my sponsor, a man called James. James was in his late 40’s. He had been an alcoholic throughout his early 30’s, the exact same age range as me. He had conquered alcohol addiction and consequently gone on to begin his own bakery company, get married, and consequently begin building a family. Really, this guy had every single thing i actually wanted, aside from a bakery. I quickly realized that James could actually become my role model. HeHe had been through the exact same thing as me, he clearly realized how to get around that and consequently proceed on to enjoy a wonderful life.
James James became my rock. He supported me over this particular journey, giving me the shoulder to be able to rely on when I got tired, a helpful ear to talk to if perhaps I was discouraged in between AA meetings. He guided me during the journey and made sure I got to the places I needed to go. I recognized that he was actually the only one that could give me the individual focus I actually needed, not the leader of the AA program. James made it simpler for me to achieve sobriety. And I’ll tell you something, we are still great friends to this day. And now, I am progressing onward and helping people the way he helped me.
